Today I bumped into an exhausting specification of an average computer programmer. Things that we consider unimportant for our job, and therefore we do not do them, really hit my eye. This article is about dealing with known disadvantages of being a computer programmer.

Based on the research, we suck at the following: Management of Financial Resources, Management of Material Resources, Management of Personnel Resources, Static Strength, Stamina, Speed of Limb Movement, Spatial Orientation, Sound Localization, Response Orientation, Reaction Time, Rate Control, Peripheral Vision, Night Vision, Multilimb Coordination, Gross Body Equilibrium, Gross Body Coordination, Glare Sensitivity, Extent Flexibility, Explosive Strength, Dynamic Strength, Dynamic Flexibility, Wrist-Finger Speed, Trunk Strength, Operating Vehicles, Mechanized Devices, or Equipment, Repairing and Maintaining Mechanical Equipment, Performing General Physical Activities, Handling and Moving Objects, and Social / Relationships.
We can consider multiple solutions that are all able to wipe out more than a dozen items from the list above, but which one is the best?
I believe the best solution is bodybuilding and/or martial arts
We've read an endless amount of articles telling people how to be more ergonomic, but nobody tells you to lift weights, right? Now consider what happens to you after spending all your youth on a chair. You will probably soon get a hearth attack or become brain dead, seriously. But when bodybuilding and/or doing martial arts, you will look and feel great every day, no matter what.
I realized the importance of being in shape quite soon and started regularly working out. That also involves a special nutrition plan. It's all about eating a sufficient amount of carbohydrates, proteins, and a moderate amount of fats. Then you need some good quality multivitamin, possibly also with Omega-3 fats. Remember: about 75% of success is nutrition, 25% workout.
As you start working out three times a week, you will notice your stress level is minimal, whilst your stamina increases. It gives you a testosterone boost, and if done properly, you're getting riper. I never needed to lose weight, but actually to gain it. And with 5 to 6 meals a day, I've been successfully doing so. Being in shape is the best thing you can do for yourself.
If this article helps at least one person, it's been still worth of writing.
Bodybuilding.com - Workout (you can look exactly like that guy on the picture)
Taekwondo information (do you enjoy having speed and flexibility so required to kick ass?)
When you include the mentioned workout in your software engineering life, expect nothing but the best. Improved stamina, increased productivity, none or only a negligible stress level, attracting more women, enjoying your swim suit, you name it.
Nobody has reacted yet. Enjoy you're the first!
